Introductions…

Hello Everyone!  I am Helene with RVing Here and There. Dan and I retired last year from the mortgage business. I must say I have not missed it for a single minute. We bought the truck and RV prior to retiring and moved in full time in August. We did a few short trips here and there not too far from home. Then winter came along and the weather started getting cold. It was time to head to the beach for some warmer weather.

Dan found a nice little county park on Mustang Island (Port Aransas) – I.B. Magee Beach Park. This is the northern most tip of the island, right at the jetty where all the big ships come into Corpus Christi. We arrived there on Dec. 8th and stayed until Feb. 15th. The park is just behind the sand dunes and really the closest park to the beach. That made it really nice for late night walks on the beach just prior to going to sleep.

You can drive on most beaches in Texas and even camp there  and have a camp fire if you want to. I was surprised at the number of folks who actually took their RVs on the beach and stayed a week or so out there. The dogs, Shadow and Zeke, loved it too as pets are also allowed on the beach. The beach patrol comes armed with poopie bags for those folks who don’t think they need to pick up after their pets. A few too many of them, I’m sorry to say! The park is home to a number of snow birds (winter Texans) who have been coming to this park for 20 years or more. Most all are avid fishermen.

We will probably spend this winter there as well. Being in Leander since 1986, I had really forgotten how great it was to live on an island… grew up in Merritt Island, Fl.  A very laid back relaxing atmosphere with lots of beautiful sunsets.

Dining at Castaways
Dining at Castaways

We did find a nice pet friendly restaurant while we were there… Castaways. Fabulous food and drinks with great service people. You can dine inside or on the patio. Pets are allowed outside on the patio and we did bring ours out for lunch one day. They were well behaved for their first trip to a restaurant. The patio is also great for watching those sunsets while sipping on a margarita. Be sure to stop in for a bite if you are on the island.

Hope you enjoyed this blog… it is my first with more to come.
